The Bay Area Housing Finance Authority voted on August 14th to remove the bond measure from the November ballot. This came at the recommendation of the campaign which stated the following in an email to followers: “…, despite the recent success in court on the Proposition 5 Appeal, we still face ongoing legal and campaign challenges from Jarvis and other anti-tax advocates. The combination of tightening polls, funding amassing against our effort and complications on ballot language, it has become very clear we must focus on State Proposition 5 which is critical for our success, and fight for the Regional Measure on a later ballot. “

The removal of the bond from the ballot is not a reflection of the dire need for housing in the Bay Area. Rather, it is a reflection of the structural difficulties in California to fund even basic infrastructure. A key step in correcting these structural difficulties is the passage of Proposition 5, which would reduce the vote needed to approve affordable housing bonds from 67% to 55%. Housing For All Marin will continue to educate our residents on the need to support affordable housing and the measures that will enable it to be built.
